With FASTCOM's SMACS solutions, SBB is securing access to the new control center building for people with reduced mobility (PRM) as well.

The customer

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) are responsible for rail traffic in Switzerland. With around 36,000 employees, SBB transports over 1.39 million passengers and 170,000 tons of freight daily. As part of the consolidation of all teams in Western Switzerland, SBB moved its Western Switzerland rail traffic control to its new operations center in Renens. Nearly 2,500 trains are controlled there daily on over 800 kilometers of track. The operations center is considered infrastructure with a vital function for Switzerland and must meet strict security requirements. FJP is the general contractor for the project.

The Challenge

The control center is the most critical location in the operating building. As the central control center for rail traffic, access must be restricted exclusively to authorized personnel around the clock. As part of its inclusion policy, SBB wants people with reduced mobility (PRM) to be able to use the control center via the same entrances as other persons. However, this must not compromise the security of access control. Furthermore, it is important to safely manage the flow of materials.

The solution: SMACS-FlexMat

To meet SBB's security and flexibility requirements, the SMACS FlexMat installed. This solution simultaneously secures the flow of people, the flow of people with limited mobility, and the flow of materials. Additionally, the SMACS FlexMat integrates seamlessly and invisibly into the building's architecture. Special modes (cleaning mode, VIP mode, emergency exit mode, etc.) are available.
